ABOUT HEALTH

What is blood pressure?

Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood against the walls of arteries. Blood pressure is recorded in 2 ways:
  • the systolic pressure (as the heart contracts);
  • the diastolic pressure (as the heart relaxes between beats); for example blood pressure below 120 over 80 mm Hg (millimetres of mercury) is considered optimal for adults.

Blood pressure should be kept within the optimal range. High blood pressure is dangerous, because it makes the heart work too hard and can lead to serious cardiovascular diseases. In the industrialised countries one out of five adults suffers from high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Although high blood pressure usually cannot be cured, in most cases it can be prevented and controlled. Prevention is the first self-aid measure to avoid any risk. Measuring your blood pressure regularly and keeping a list of your latest measurements, can be useful for a diagnosis in case of emergency.

Low pressure

What is the optimal blood pressure?
systolic: 120 mmhg (2,32 psi or 15 kp)
diastolic: 80 mmhg (1,55 psi or 10 kp)

What brings changes to blood pressure?
  • time of day
  • atmospheric pressure and temperature of air
  • malnutrition
  • overuse of salt
  • physical activity
  • emotional condition
  • stressful situations
  • consuming alcohol and smoking
  • painful conditions
  • genetic factors
  • obesity
  • age, gender etc

These are only some of the factors affecting blood pressure!

Hypertension - “The silent killer”

Do you know that...?
  • High blood pressure is the commonest non-infectious illness in the world
  • In Europe alone, hypertension is found in over 20% adults
  • More than 50 % cases of heart infarction result from high blood pressure
  • More than 75 % cases of all strokes are a consequence of high blood pressure
  • Incidence of angina and myocardial infarction is four times higher in people with hypertension than in those without
  • Heart insufficiency is a condition six times more frequent in people with high blood pressure than in those without

Prevention is better…
Many are suffering from high blood pressure without even knowing it.
When they do find out, it is often too late.

Regular blood pressure control gives you reliable control and therefore prevention of many health problems. The only thing you need is a fine blood pressure monitor.

Blood pressure should be kept within the optimal range. Vital System blood pressure monitors are the solution.

BMI and Body Fat percentage

Body Mass Index is a statistical measurement which compares a person’s weight and height and is used to calculate a person’s healthy weight based on their height. A person’s body fat percentage is the total weight of the person’s fat divided by the person’s weight and consists of essential body fat and storage body fat. Essential body fat is necessary to maintain life and reproductive functions. The percentage for women is greater than that for men. Essential fat is 3–5% in men, and 8–12% in women.
They are used universally to estimate if a person is overweight or underweight. In recent years obesity has become a major cause for concern. It is estimated that by 2025 almost a third of all Europeans will be obese.
This is a worrying statistic, not only for us but for our children. Obesity is not confined to adults and the problems, which lead to obesity usually start in children. Obesity leads to many health problems many of them fatal, as well as psychological issues, poor self-esteem etc. That’s why it is so important to fight against obesity in every way possible. A healthy diet is the only way to prevent obesity and it is important to monitor your body fat.

 BMI  Weight Status
 Below 18.5  Underweight
 18.5 - 24.9  Normal
 25.0 - 29.9  Overweight
 30.0 and Above  Obese

Body temperature

Contrary to popular belief, there is no simple “normal body temperature”. A healthy person’s body temperature will vary during the day depending on their metabolism.

Body temperature is an important indication of the general condition of our organism: when we are sick our body increases its temperature to fight against specific health condition. It is always preferable to monitor every temperature fluctuation, should it be due to harmless reasons – i.e. ovulation, hormonal or emotional changes – or to some medical condition. Especially, high temperatures should never be neglected, as it alerts that our body is probably evincing some diseases. Detecting fever may reveal illness at an early stage and also its entire evolution can be monitored, which is often very important.

Body temperature is the immediate indicator of your health’s condition.
  • Normal body temperature range is from 36.4 °C to 37.5 °C
  • To determine your own normal bodily temperature, you need to perform a series of measurements when you are completely healthy.
Each home has to have a reliable and precise thermometer.
There are two kinds of thermometers:
  • Conventional (mercury)
  • Modern (digital)
Some deficencies with mercury thermometers:
  • Preparation necessary.
  • We are never sure for how long we should keep the thermometer where we take the temperature.
  • Problems occur during measurements, especially with babies, small children and invalids.
  • Reading the measured value is not very simple (especially for those with impaired vision).
  • There can be long-term problems if the thermometers breaks and the mercury escapes (mercury is among the most poisonous elements and can seriously damage one’s health).

Massage

The benefits of massage have been known since ancient times and modern medicine has learned from Eastern cultures the importance of massage techniques for our well-being.
Focusing on these elements, Vital System has developed an innovative device reproducing different manual massages and their main benefits.
Massage is an ancient technique and has long been used as a healing therapy.

Today, the work of the masseur can be enhanced by the use of sophisticated equipment to help provide a more effective massage.

Your body is crying out for help!
Constant backache, pain in muscles and joints, poor circulation of blood, loss of tone in skin and muscles – these are just some of the symptoms of worsening physical condition of the body. Such symptoms adversely affect our sense of well being and quality of life.

General decline in physical fitness
One person out of four has a regular massage. Massage is a pleasant experience that has positive effects on the body, and demand for this technique is increasing. General physical fitness in the population is declining; caused, at least in part, by the decrease in manual activities.
As technology advances, there may be more demand for therapeutic equipment designed to improve health.

Increasing demand for massage
Data provided by American researchers have demonstrated an increase in the demand for massage from 22% to 33% over the past five years.
People expect massage to improve their mood and feeling of well being, to reduce pain, and to relieve stress and tiredness. Massage is ideal for treating people of a wide range of ages, from babies to the elders, and is particularly popular with women. In addition, a growing number of men are also now having regular massage.

Massage is the practice of applying controlled pressure, or gentle vibration, to the muscles and joints. Massage can be applied manually with the hands or by using mechanical aids.
Massage can be used as therapy to help in disease prevention, healing and rehabilitation.
Acupuncture, vibrotherapy and pressure healing (barotherapy) are other forms of  ‘alternative therapy’.

What happens during a massage?
The pressure applied during a massage causes the soft tissues beneath the skin to move, depending on the amount of pressure applied by the masseur.
This movement causes the tissues to stretch: the amount by which each tissue stretches is variable. The pressure and movement of the tissues can then influence the function of the various structures located within (e.g. muscle fibers, small blood vessels, nerve endings, sweat glands, etc.).
The application of particular massage techniques (stroking, kneading, friction, tapping, vibration) determines how deeply the massage is felt.

The benefits of massage have been known since ancient times.

Acupuncture

An ancient healing skill based on the pricking of needles into tissue in order to soothe and remove pain and tension and boosting life energy. This is accomplished by stimulation of characteristic acupuncture points below the skin’s surface. (lat. Acus, needle; puncture).
The discovery of this treatment is ascribed to the legendary Chinese czar Huan Ti (about 2,500 BC).

Chinese experts say that the human body has 365 characteristic acupuncture points. These form 12 lines (meridians). By acting on them, the release of harmful substances from the organism can be facilitated and vital energy increased.

Electro Acupuncture

Electro Acupuncture is a non-invasive method where  the acupuncture points are stimulated by gentle electronic pulsations rather than needles. So, it is a completely painless method. The appliance independently identifies the points of low resistance that are a critical mechanism in pain relief and the rounded-tip needles send electronic impulses to the identified point. The unique advantage of bio-feedback ensures regularity of use because the appliance independently locates the point to be stimulated.
